President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a meeting with the Japan – Sri Lanky Friendship Parliamentary Group. The meeting was held at Temple Trees. A group of parliamentarians representing the new Government of Japan participated in this meeting. President Rajapaksa toll Ore visiting Japanese legislators that Sri Lanka is prepared to make a great leap forward in terms of economic development.
The discussion also focused on the setting up of a special economic zone adjacent to the main harbors which are being developed by the Government. The Japanese representatives lauded the development strategies adopted by the Sri Lankan Government. They said they are happy that the country is stable politically. They vowed their support to Sri Lanka in the fields of tourism and investment.
President Rajapaksa commended the assistance extended by Japan toward the country’s development.
The President extended an invitation to the new Prime Minister of Japan and senior representatives of the Japanese Government for a visit to Sri Lanka.
Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Association President Ven Suduhumpala Wimalasara Thera, Horo Fumi Hirano, members of the Japan-Sri Lanka parliamentary group and Japanese envoy in Sri Lanka Kuni Takahashi were present. Ministers Prof GL Peiris, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Priyankara Jayaratne and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga were present.
