Sri Lanka has been in confusion for more than 20 years due to civil war and terrorism, but it has regained its peace in the end. The NPO “Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Association” visited Sri Lanka from December 12 to 18, 2004 to observe the current status of facilities such as “refugee camps” where victims of civil war were housed. While visiting, they meet with Prime Minister Mr.M. Rajapaksa.
Mr. M.G. Sunil, chairman of the local corporation “Sri Lanka-Japan Friendship Association” and many others met them at the airport. Immediately they headed to the prime minister’s residence in Colombo and met with the prime minister.
The Prime Minister said, “We will change drastically, I would like to emphasize economic recovery and infrastructure development. I would like to ask for cooperation from Japan. The cooperation from Japan is indispensable.” The prime minister revealed his determination. The delegation felt the expectation and good impression of such a prime minister. The Sri Lankan people have great expectations for Prince Minister Rajapaksa.
